12th March, 2025: UNIMATIC and Massena LAB have joined forces to unveil a captivating new timepiece: the Modello Uno U1-SPG "NASA Artemis" Limited Edition. This striking wristwatch, limited to just 99 pieces, is a powerful tribute to the legacy of human space exploration while boldly looking towards its future, specifically NASA's ambitious Artemis program.

Honouring Artemis II

The spirit of the U1-SPG directly honors the pioneering spirit of the NASA Artemis campaign, which aims to return crewed missions to the Moon for the first time since the iconic Apollo era. With the Artemis II mission slated for launch in April 2026, marking the inaugural crewed flight of the next-generation Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, this collaboration captures the audacity and courage of these upcoming lunar endeavors.

Design Inspired by Space

Drawing inspiration from the Artemis missions and its astronauts, the UNIMATIC x Massena LAB U1-SPG embodies this adventurous spirit through its distinctive design. The matte black dial proudly features the "NASA" signature alongside hour plots, a vintage "worm" NASA emblem, and a 24-hour track, all painted with beige "Old Radium" Super-LumiNova® for exceptional legibility, a lume also applied to the hands.

Bold Colours and Retro-futuristic Elements

The 60-minute rotating bezel is fully luminous as well. Perhaps the most eye-catching element is the bold, burnt orange stainless steel case, coated in durable, anti-corrosive Cerakote™, a material widely used in aerospace and inspired by the vibrant hue of the SLS rocket. The crown and bezel feature a deep charcoal Cerakote™ coating, and the watch is protected by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective interior coating.

A Commemorative Caseback

The 40mm case (with a 41.5mm bezel) features a closed stainless steel caseback engraved with the NASA Artemis program emblem and an individual numbering out of 99. Completing the look are quick-release burnt orange sport nylon straps with a matching Cerakote-coated buckle. Powering the U1-SPG is the reliable self-winding Seiko NH34A movement with a GMT function.

A Shared Vision: Celebrating the Promise of Space Travel

William Massena of Massena LAB elaborated on the collaboration's inspiration, recalling a childhood fascination with NASA and the promise of technological advancement. He sees the U1-SPG as a tribute to that feeling of limitless possibilities. Giovanni Moro, co-founder of UNIMATIC, added that the burnt orange color is a direct nod to the SLS rocket, while the overall aesthetic draws inspiration from the bold vision of 1960s retrofuturism, particularly Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" with its clean, geometric lines and minimalism.

The UNIMATIC x Massena LAB Modello Uno U1-SPG "NASA Artemis" Limited Edition, priced at $1295, launched on Wednesday, March 12th, and is available exclusively through Massena LAB's website. Each watch is presented in a special branded case with a NASA patch and additional straps.
