NEW RELEASE | 300 WORDS | 2 MIN READ

Grand Seiko's deep connection to nature is evident in their latest creation, a new limited edition timepiece within the Evolution 9 Collection. Inspired by the majestic Mt. Iwate, visible from the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, this watch showcases innovative design, materials, and technology.

A Reimagined Mt. Iwate Dial

The center piece of this new model is a reimagined Mt. Iwate dial. A recurring motif in Grand Seiko's history, the Mt. Iwate pattern, first seen in 2006, evokes the rugged landscape and volcanic history of this iconic mountain. This new iteration captures the mountain's beauty from a bird's-eye view, using a striking light-blue hue reminiscent of the pure air and water surrounding it. The textured dial beautifully recreates the ridges of Mt. Iwate, adding depth and visual interest.

The watch adheres to the Evolution 9 Style, a design language that builds upon Grand Seiko's core principles of beauty, legibility, and comfort while paying homage to the 1967 44GS design. The interplay of Zaratsu polishing and hairline finishing creates a harmonious glow on the Ever-Brilliant Steel case and bracelet. This special steel alloy boasts a PREN value over 1.7 times higher than standard stainless steel used in high-end watches, resulting in significantly enhanced corrosion resistance. This superior resistance allows the hairline-finished surfaces to shine brighter, complementing the light-blue dial. The robust hands and prominent, grooved indices ensure excellent legibility, a hallmark of Grand Seiko. The case's low center of gravity and the carefully designed bracelet provide a comfortable and secure fit on the wrist.

The Caliber 9SA5

Powering this high-beat timepiece is the Caliber 9SA5, an automatic movement operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour (10 beats per second). Its highly efficient Dual Impulse Escapement and twin barrels provide an impressive 80-hour power reserve. The movement's finish is inspired by the rippling Shizukuishi River, which flows near the Grand Seiko studio. The Caliber 9SA5 boasts a mean daily rate accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day and features 47 jewels.

The Grand Seiko SLGH027, a limited edition of 1,200 pieces, will be available at Grand Seiko Boutiques and select retailers worldwide starting in May 2025.
