A Nod to History

Every element of the PAM01628, from its commanding 47mm case to its timeless calf leather strap, echoes archival designs, paying tribute to Panerai's roots in functional military timepieces.

The robust 47mm case, a hallmark of Panerai's heritage, is directly inspired by the watches worn by Italian commandos during their daring underwater missions. The larger diameter was crucial for enhanced readability, a critical feature for a tool watch designed for challenging conditions.

The case itself features a unique patina finish, achieved through a precise hand-applied process. This special polishing technique gives the case a subtly worn and aged appearance, reminiscent of the natural wear that vintage Panerai watches acquire over time, adding a touch of authentic character.

The P.3000 Movement

At the heart of the PAM01628 beats the P.3000, a manually wound movement with an impressive three-day power reserve, achieved through its twin barrels. Renowned for its robustness and reliability, the manual winding mechanism offers a more tactile and engaging experience for the wearer.

The design and construction of the P.3000 calibre are deeply rooted in Panerai's historical movements from the 1960s, replicating both the functional and aesthetic qualities of these vintage calibres. The finishing of the P.3000 is intentionally clean and utilitarian, reflecting the practical needs of the military divers who relied on these instruments.

The Iconic Sandwich Dial: A Legacy of Legibility

The PAM01628 features Panerai's iconic sandwich dial, a design innovation developed in the 1940s to maximize legibility, even in extremely low-light conditions. Originally constructed with three parts—an upper drilled plate, a lower luminous plate, and a transparent Plexiglas® disc—the sandwich dial provided exceptional brightness. Legend has it that underwater commandos sometimes had to cover their watches with mud or seaweed to avoid detection during nighttime operations.

The sandwich construction has evolved over time and now consists of two superimposed plates. The lower plate is coated with Super-LumiNova®, ensuring exceptional luminosity and readability in any environment.

The Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628 is more than just a watch; it's a tangible link to Panerai's storied past, a testament to its commitment to functional design, and a celebration of its enduring legacy. It's a watch that speaks to both the collector and the enthusiast, offering a blend of historical inspiration and modern watchmaking excellence.
