The Creative Duo
Founded in 2022 by the dynamic duo of luxury expert Claire Cohen and visionary designer/watchmaker John Byrne, Byrne Watch has consistently pushed the boundaries of horological innovation, developing one caliber per year – a remarkable feat. Celebrating their 3-year anniversary at Geneva Watch Week 2025, Byrne has reached a new milestone with the Byrne Star, a world-first and the brand's most advanced timepiece to date. Imagined with passion by John Byrne and meticulously crafted in Switzerland, the Byrne Star is more than just a watch; it's a statement. This exceptional creation takes a giant leap into the upper echelons of Haute Horlogerie, firmly establishing Byrne's place as a powerhouse in the world of independent watchmaking.
A Legacy Reborn from a Pope’s Pocket Watch
The genesis of the Byrne Star lies in an extraordinary historical timepiece: a Vacheron Constantin pocket watch that John Byrne meticulously restored over two decades ago. Acquired in India, this rare watch, believed to have belonged to a Pope, featured an enlarged map of Italy. John's dedication to restoring this piece in 2005, including recreating lost champlevé enamel sections, deeply resonated with him. This restoration work garnered the attention of Vacheron Constantin, who eventually acquired the piece for their museum. To commemorate the 200th anniversary of this masterpiece, John Byrne conceived the Byrne Star as a modern homage, a testament to both craftsmanship and history, encapsulating his lifelong passion for innovation and reverence for watchmaking heritage.
Moments in Motion
The Byrne Star introduces not one, but two distinct complications: a classic 12-hour Worldtimer and the groundbreaking Time Flow gyro-complication, a truly innovative feature years in the making. Through countless calculations and meticulous development, this new complication redefines our perception of time, offering not just function but a deeper, emotional connection to each passing moment across the globe.
Spotlight On The Byrne Star
A 12-hour Worldtimer: Displaying 12 key locations on a central disk for simple time zone tracking. The selected locations, with a 2-hour time difference between each, are: London, Athens, Abu Dhabi, Dhaka, Macau, Brisbane*, Midway*, Juneau, La Paz, Havana, Brasilia, and Azores (*Brisbane and Midway are highlighted in gold to indicate the reading sequence).
The World’s First "Time Flow" Complication
Showcased on Byrne's signature gyro dial with four rotating cubes at the cardinal points. Each cube dynamically displays a different phase of the day – Early Morning (soft light sky blue), Noon (vibrant turquoise blue), Evening (deep, dark blue), and Night (starry sky color) – offering a synchronized and visual representation of time unfolding across 16 major cities:
12 o’clock: Hanoi, Paris, Rome, New York
3 o’clock: Male, Tokyo, Baku, Rio
6 o’clock: Taipei, Hong Kong, Oslo, Bern
9 o’clock: Doha, Sydney, Noumea, Dubai
This is far beyond a simple AM/PM indicator. The cubes don't show specific hours but rather the moment of the day in those carefully selected cities, each holding personal significance for John Byrne.
Why This Timepiece Matters
In our relentlessly fast-paced world, the Byrne Star challenges our over-reliance on mere precision, inviting a more mindful approach to the passage of time. It's a tool designed not just to track hours and minutes but to encourage a more intentional way of living. Whether adorning the wrist of an executive, an artist, or a dreamer, this watch offers a unique perspective – a conversation starter and a companion for those who see time as more than just numbers.
Sleek, Refined, Reborn: The Design Evolution
While Byrne's signature style leans towards sport-chic with barrel-shaped cases, the Byrne Star marks a more classic approach. Paying tribute to the historical "Pope watch," it features a completely reimagined 38 mm case, 2mm thinner and more rounded, crafted from Grade 5 titanium for a lightweight yet robust feel. The result is a timepiece that seamlessly blends modern innovation with timeless elegance.
The rhodium dial boasts a sunburst finish, adding depth and texture. Thin, open-worked hands in yellow gold – a direct homage to the sun and the Vacheron Constantin pocket watch – enhance readability as they gracefully sweep across the dial. Completing the refined aesthetic is a luxurious Double Crocodile strap in a rich blue, featuring hand-stitched detailing for ultimate comfort and style.
"Do or do not. There is no try."

With its groundbreaking design and unparalleled complications, Byrne has redefined the art of watchmaking, leaving no room for compromise. The Byrne Star isn't just another timepiece; it's a definitive statement of what happens when visionary design meets horological precision. John Byrne affectionately calls this creation his 'Star World', a playful nod to Star Wars and the watch's role in charting new territories in timekeeping. The Byrne Star doesn't follow trends; it sets them, embodying a commitment to excellence where only mastery prevails.
