PRESS RELEASE | 610 WORDS | 5 MIN READ
20th March, 2025: Louis Vuitton's foray into the world of high horology is gaining serious momentum, and their latest move is sending ripples of excitement throughout the watch collecting community. Following their unexpected and highly acclaimed partnership with Rexhep Rexhepi of Akrivia in 2023, the French luxury powerhouse has now joined forces with another independent watchmaking titan: Kari Voutilainen. The LVKV-02 GMR 6, a timepiece born from a remarkable collaboration with the esteemed Voutilainen workshop, represents a true fusion of exceptional watchmaking savoir-faire, marking a significant moment for both the iconic French House and the renowned independent atelier.
This exclusive project, limited to just five exquisite pieces, brings together the unique talents of Master Watchmaker Kari Voutilainen's workshop and the expertise of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. The result is the LVKV-02 GMR 6, a watch steeped in heritage and crafted with unparalleled precision.
Drawing inspiration from the distinctive aesthetic of the 2024 Louis Vuitton Escale collection, the LVKV-02 GMR 6 features a sophisticated 40.5mm case crafted from tantalum, elegantly accented with platinum elements. While the design direction was inspired by Louis Vuitton, the meticulous crafting of the 12.44mm thick case was overseen by the skilled artisans at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, ensuring the highest standards of quality and finish.
At the heart of this exceptional timepiece lies the GMR 6 caliber, a testament to exquisite craftsmanship. Designed and meticulously hand-crafted within the Voutilainen workshop, this movement is a showcase of traditional horological artistry. Adorned with artisanal "Côtes de Genève" and delicate perlage, every detail reflects the unwavering attention and expertise poured into its creation. Through the transparent caseback, a truly captivating detail is revealed: the barrel cover, embellished with a kaleidoscopic motif brought to life through intricate miniature painting, a visual testament to the artistry within.
The dial of the LVKV-02 GMR 6 is a masterpiece in its own right, seamlessly blending the distinct talents of both Houses. The center of the gold dial features breathtaking hand-guillochage, executed with remarkable dexterity and passion by skilled artisans at the Brodbeck guillochage workshop. Utilizing machines dating back to the 18th century, they have created a unique and intricate pattern that harmoniously combines the iconic Louis Vuitton Damier motif with Kari Voutilainen's signature wave design. A clear testament to this significant partnership, the dial is inscribed with "LVOUTILAINEN," a lasting tribute to the collaboration between these two esteemed ateliers.
Adding a vibrant and artistic touch, reminiscent of historic stained-glass windows, the hours circle is meticulously hand-painted with a rich palette of 28 different colours. This demanding task is brought to life by master painter Maryna Bossy at La Fabrique des Arts, requiring over 32 hours of scrupulous and dedicated work to achieve its stunning visual effect.
In a final nod to Louis Vuitton's enduring spirit of travel, each LVKV-02 GMR 6 watch is presented in an exclusive trunk. Crafted at the House's historic Asnières workshop, these special trunks are embellished with a hand-painted design that echoes the captivating artistry of the watch's dial, further celebrating this exceptional collaboration and the art of horological journey.
