The legendary AMIDA Digitrend, a celebrated Swiss watch from the 1970s and a nominee for the 2024 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in the Petite Aiguille category, is back with a bold and modern revival. Two stunning re-editions—the sleek Digitrend Black Edition and the ultra-limited Digitrend Gold Edition—promise to reignite the charm of retro-futurism, blending the nostalgia of the 70s with contemporary horological innovation.
A Tribute to the 70s: The Spirit of the Digitrend
Originally launched in 1976, the AMIDA Digitrend epitomised the era’s fascination with Space Age aesthetics and performance car design. From its unique "casquette" style to its driver-friendly lateral time display, the watch captured the imagination of enthusiasts. Its iconic design, inspired by the dashboards of sports cars, returns with refined features, making it a timeless piece for today’s collectors.
The two new editions of the Digitrend are imbued with both retro charm and modern updates. The Black Edition features a black DLC-coated stainless steel case for a contemporary, understated look, while the Gold Edition dazzles with a 4N gold PVD finish, offering a luxurious take on vintage style.
Cutting-Edge Features Meet Timeless Design
The new Digitrend editions boast advanced features while staying true to the original’s design ethos.
Innovative Display: The patented Light Reflective Display (LRD) system uses a sapphire prism to project the time laterally, inspired by submarine periscope technology.
Mechanical Excellence: Powered by the Swiss-made Soprod Newton P092 calibre, these watches feature a self-winding movement with a 44-hour power reserve and jumping hour discs for precision.
Sleek Case Design: The 39.6mm case, crafted from 316L stainless steel, echoes the streamlined lines of a sports car, while ergonomic contours ensure a comfortable fit.
Enhanced Aesthetics: Both editions feature refined finishes, including Geneva stripes, circular graining, and skeletonised rotors visible through the open caseback.
A Collector’s Dream
The Digitrend’s legacy as a driver’s watch continues, with these editions poised to become collector favourites. The Black Edition exudes minimalist elegance, while the Gold Edition, limited to an ultra-exclusive run, is a statement piece for vintage enthusiasts. Both models blend the charm of 70s design with the reliability of modern horology.
From Chronopassion in Paris to Swiss Prestige in Taipei, these models will be available through select retailers and online. Starting in 2025, they will also join AMIDA’s permanent collection, solidifying their place as icons of contemporary watchmaking.
Discover the AMIDA Digitrend collection online or at exclusive retailers starting November 27, 2024. Own a piece of horological history and wear the spirit of the 70s on your wrist.
